The Academy
The method
The Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano is addressed to the students who want to join an ensemble of contemporary music, in prestigious artistic productions.
In the past it worked together with world-famous soloists and conductors such as Enrique Mazzola and Patricia Kopatchinskaja, and with composers teaching in important European institutes, such as Roland Moser (Musik-Akademie – Basel). The Academy has thus formed a technical – scientific committee relying on prestigious skills in the different circles of classical music, from dramaturgy to organization.
The study and performance laboratory represented by the ensemble of contemporary music bases its originality and efficacy on the comprehensive method of learning that intends to offer. It is not only a question of looking for highly qualified teachers, first rate musicians giving their academic lessons, but also excellent performers who may join the ensemble together with the students.
Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano
Man can rule fortune only considering history, viewing the past, linking the past to the future. (Niccolò Machiavelli, Il Principe)
We can greatly recognize ourselves in Macchiavelli’s quotation, as far as music is concerned, specially contemporary music. It is impossible to have new music without regarding the limit, the tension of one’s limit as a resource and a possibility, even for what concerns the interpretation, and the fruition of a just written musical work. In composing, this limit is history, the history made by the musicians who wrote and interpreted music before us, who showed us the way, who pushed us into trying to go beyond what had already been done and conquered in research and inspiration, in the “mirror” that each artist is of his own time and of his own way of envisaging life.
For the Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano, this limit and this resource is the interpreter, the musician who plays and interacts with the composer when music has just been written and when you are still students. That is to say that any real artist is perpetually a student, in continuous search of a personal perfection. This never ending research is the “ousìa” (substance – quod quid erat esse) of the Academy.
This meeting among youg musicians and composers has always existed in the past from the times of Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, till yesterday, but at present has almost disappeared. For this reason the “ancient” idea of making music with well-known teachers and young students directly at rehearsals and concerts has seemed to us fundamental and useful to get back that “fortuna” mentioned by Machiavelli, “linking the past to the future”.
